UGH!

UGH!
So today I sat
And I sat
And I sat
And I listened
And I got irritated
And I got annoyed
Then it was either cry
Or hit a wall
And so I cried
Why you ask?
Apparently….
My smile is not good enough
HUH? What the hell is that!
Do I deal with customers?
No, I sit in a corner at my computer
Do customers enter our building?
No, never
Does this affect my work skill?
No, definitely not, in fact
I scored excellent on skill and ethic
Policy and procedure
Always helping other departments
Attendance and presenting new ideas
Yet, my yearly raise was cut 2%
All because my smile
UGH!
As if I am some morbid clown
Or deranged pompom girl
I should walk around always smiling
That’s me happy as can be!
UGH! UGH! UGH!
Ya know, I don’t get it
Most times,
I am just so focused
The projects are not often easy
It takes planning, critical thinking
Minute details that cannot be missed
My mind is constantly in motion
Yet I should stop and worry
Bout what people,
Whom I have never spoken to, mind you
What they think of my smile
Oh and the bit of leftover New York accent
That automatically makes me mean
UGHHHHHHHH!
So this is what I say…
To myself of course
Or I’d never get a raise
I am who I am!
I cannot be eternally smiling
Does that mean I am not Happy?
NOOOOOOOOOOO
Does it mean that I am a bad person?
NOOOOOOOOOO
It means……
I’m not a phony
My mind at the moment is busy
I am a working Mom
Who creates 10 page spreadsheets
Calculations, formulas, you know
That most times get thrown out
After 3 weeks of working on them
Listens to everyone in the office vent
And never tells anyone else
Who has spent over a month
Fighting cold, flu, ear infection
Who suffers at times with depression
Severe anxiety and social anxiety
Contending with a 7yr old
Who doesn’t want to do homework
Who makes a mess 5 min after I clean
For whom I bust my butt everyday
Paid in peasant coins
To keep food on the table
A roof over our heads
Medicine so that I don’t fall into a coma
Make the car payment
A dog, a cat, and a stray cat
A working Mom
Who cannot in good heart
Go shopping, go to concerts
Or do anything for herself
Because it's just not possible
Still, I motivate myself everyday
To get out of bed
Do the best that I can
At home and work
Try to make everyone happy
Well ya know what
F*** Me!
Whatever you want to think is fine
Just leave me be!
