The Raven Calling
Cloaked beneath the onyx sky
It is the raven who transcends the night
His heart beating in precise rhythm to the beckoning of the wind
As a song echoes softly from his soul
A story only he himself can tell
Sometimes I wonder what it is you search for
Why it is to this sill you always return
There are no cages to restrain you here
No spells, chants or invocations
Is only love and freedom to soar amongst the stars
To live as you should choose
It is all that I have to offer you
All that I must offer you
Yet I am drawn ever nearer to the strength you exude
A predatory gentleness from which I cannot pull away
How curious you were this day
Your feathers fluffed and preened
It was as if you stepped from a warm morning shower
To my eyes it was sweet perfection
For the first time in my life I did not want to look away
As I stood in awe of your exquisite exhibition
So tell me my mystic treasure
What is it that you wish this night
Your eyes I can see are resting heavy
Have you become weary from flight
Do not take this burden beneath your wings alone
Or let it tear you apart
Nestle yourself here beside the candles fire
And together we shall drift into peaceful slumber
