Crying Out Loud

Crying Out Loud
There is nothing here Save this dark existence The air stale and cold He believes it to be true This will be his fate An eternity of dank nothingness As the bitterness envelopes him But even from here He is turned away Until that single moment He shall look upon the face of redemption All that he has lost
At both ends the light burns brightly Perhaps it is that he must choose right Before he may cross left For now his heart steps back in time Awaiting passage to the future Via the wheels of realization and acceptance The path outstretched before him A crossroad, silent and barren Though it is not his alone to travel It is time now that he must learn His Gods have spoken unto him And so it is with great reluctance His journey must begin
In her blindness he finds innocence Uncorrupted beauty that calls to his heart Though then, he would not readily admit it In the years that have passed He can do nothing more but smile As she shakes her head And speaks aloud to no one but herself Or be it when she eats or breathes Even more so when she sings Sing for me again he whispers softly My muse, it is time for you to see Maybe one day it will be so You will truly understand The story that your voice carries
Still, for now he must go unnoticed Until the time shall come
Just as a garden is slowly nurtured to abundance So too her sight begins strengthen Beneath a gentle hand of love and wisdom She sees, though she cannot explain Their journey’s intersecting in time While the terrain at times seemed unmanageable The road has somewhat smoothed over The words he speaks no longer go unheard Until at once she is of her own strength Her own light Trust now her only obstacle Whereby the student becomes the teacher If it had not been his name she cried out During a moment of adoration He would have thought it a battle better left to lie But it was his name, and a cry he shall not soon forget And without thought he rushed to her side In him something had changed The darkness overcome by light
It was as if bells had rung some days later The summoning of the great Gods Calling him before their divine thrones “You have learned and taught well More than we’ve expected You are free now To do whatever you should choose Without bind to the crossroad You have arrived and needn’t return” “Then it is that I choose to return” His words like daggers Piercing the solitude “You forced me upon this path Now it is that you expect me to turn my back I will not Because I cannot”
The Gods conferring For what seemed an eternity Granted his wish to return And in doing so he agreed to lead Whenever it should be called upon him “You do not yet realize the extent of your choice” “By returning you have yet to face your greatest challenge All that you cherish on this path You may one day be forced to let go Without hindrance You must let be whatever is to be For in the end all will be returned unto you To spend your days as you see fit Though in truth it is not our approval you need seek”
He returned to his path as he had asked Whereupon they sat for a long while On the banks of a silver river “So it is that I have found my redemption I am free to do as I choose” With her eyes wide she listened intently
“You can return home now”, she said excitedly I am strong now, I can help get you there” “No, I do not wish to go” He spoke sternly “But, it is all you’ve ever asked for” “Then, I’ve since changed my mind” “You must go she protested It is where you belong” “Then you must come with me” “Oh my love, but it is not where I belong”
He sat silent for a long moment His only response was this “I will not go for all the reasons you know Where one heart resides, so too does the other If it is that you do not belong Then I too do not belong And it is not a pain I can endure So it is that I wish to stay Though you must promise me one thing Without hindrance You must let be whatever is to be And not grieve On a day when you may have to let me go For all that I cannot give you I must know you will be cared for properly Just as I would care for you Do you understand”
She stared at him, shaking her head For what seemed an eternity Finally, her only response was this “I cannot make that promise For all the reasons you know Tell me, what then will happen When it is your name I cry out I will be left with nothing but ashes Who will it be then that would understand Where one heart resides, so too does the other If you are not accepted Then I am not accepted It is not a pain I can endure For all that you cannot give me I am in need of nothing And wherever it is I may travel You too will be at my side Only then what is to be can truly be Without hindrance So it is that I wish you would stay”
“You must promise to try”, he whispered As he kissed her forehead “I do”, she responded softly
Watching from a distance One of the Gods stood smiling His authority unmasked As he looked up his Goddess before him Mumbling unto herself “They have learned well”, he began “More than we’ve expected” Her only response was this “As did we my love As did we For where one heart resides So too does the other
