If I Were Gone Tomorrow
If I were gone tomorrow
What would it be like
Darkness or light
I shutter to think
But I cannot fear that now
As always I must move forward
Setting the wheels in motion
So that I may find my way to better days
Eluding the shadow creeping ever near
I will fight for you, for us, for me
Though the outcome is anyone’s guess
Would I even want to know
I guess the more definitive question would be
Do you know
Would you tell me if you did
Could you hide it
This waiting game it seems like an eternity
Three days and twelve more left to go
To the demons swimming around in my mind
I have been rendered powerless
And what if it were true
If I were gone tomorrow, what then
Yes I would have regret
It would not have been enough time
To spend with my child, my loved ones
To not have traveled across that great pond
And stand along the edges of ley lines
While I breathe in the cold crisp air
Or take in the sounds of the city
At peace among the voices that soothe my soul
Before finding my way along winding country roads
No, I would have never gotten the chance
To hand deliver the roses as I had hoped
Instead of some stranger from the florist
Never have been awed by the sight of Eire hillsides
And majestic cliffs that meet the sea
Still, my life would not have been a complete loss
At the very least I have known love
True and unconditional
Cherished far beyond the moon and stars
I’ve learned what it’s all about
The way it all should be
And I am thankful for every moment
But it’s time now for you to do what it is you do
To work your magick for others
And curb this incessant need to not leave my side
Handling me with kid gloves every second of the day
Like a porcelain doll that’s ready to shatter at any moment
I’m fine, really I am
When the results are in we’ll deal
So go and do, please
There are others for you to tend to
I have no doubt you are always within earshot
For now I think I just need to lose the thought of it all
Get lost in the sounds of my happy music
Whilst you pass along ridiculous pictures
Spinning me around along a white sand beach somewhere
As if either one of us could dance
You are such a dork sometimes
But you’re everything I need
And if I were really gone tomorrow
I know exactly where I’d be

Author's Notes: I got some potentially bad news this week which has set off a flood of thought and emotion. My happy music I referenced above is Jason Mraz's "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things" cd in particular the song "I'm Yours". The whole cd just makes feel good, but that song especially always seems to play at the perfect time and puts the biggest smile on my face and no matter what's bothering me everything seems to just disappear.
