How Could I Forget

There is never a day it doesn’t cross my mind
But the light so oft is blinding
Forcing me to retreat
I thought I knew everything I would say
Then again, I’ve been down this road before
Maybe it’s nothing more than my imagination
I could swear I see you there, but is it you
Are you listening
So you know the words but what of the story
Why don’t you tell me
You see, the mind plays tricks sometimes
And beneath dark waters I dare not falter
I’ve been bruised and I so fear the shadows
Yet it's that ever sweet face I remember
How could I forget
I keep it with me always
My favorite without question
It must have been cold there that day
Whereupon cobblestone streets you traveled.
Still, I am paralyzed by this all consuming doubt
What do you see when you look this way
Pictures speak a thousand words
Especially when they’re five years younger
For what it’s worth
I’m sorry I spoke to you the way I did
And if you would indulge me for just a moment
I would be lying if I didn’t say
My brilliantly shining Knight you will always remain
