The Devil is Dead

The Devil is Dead
The devil is dead but the darkness it’s still shifting
With every year that passes by, we live in fear
While enchanted angels sing on high
Drowning in a sea of yesterdays
Forever changed, the skyline of my mind
The pain does never cease, memories consume my soul
Where were you, do you remember, could we ever forget
They asked not for what they were given,
Those who lost their lives in the battle raging
Unbeknownst, the synchronizing of the storm cloud rising
In one solemn swoop, altering the world’s perspective
We dare not erase their faces and names, for they are the ones
Keeping us safe, listening to the chatter, infusing us with light
Even from the darkest edges of the earth is heard a whisper
There is no choice but to heed the call, fight fire with fire
With the spiraling of the wind that follows the wild greyhound’s path
And Anubis ever shining, the guardians have taken their stance
Whilst my love soars far across both land and sea
In times of need, seeking out the enemy
Retrieving innocence lost, a proud soldier he’s become
Just one more day longer, soon so soon, he’ll be home again
Until the next ring of the phone
That forces him away from the warmth of the lamp light burning
