Ascension to Hope

by Shawnee
 Age Group: Adult

Ascension to Hope
And she ascended the mountain Barefoot, cold, and broken Tears flowing like from a fountain Too many words left unspoken
They all had left her in the forest That misty one of her mind Where once was heard a bird’s chorus But is now covered in vine
Her heart had been open to all Except, perhaps, to herself She had not been afraid to fall Love not kept on a shelf
Her pain now was great Her heart withered and stone This heavy heart now her fate She could not but weep and moan
Higher up so she climbed Her feet now ached and bruised No care to what she would find Her heart had been abused
No longer could she trust Since they all had left her She was bled of hope and lust The sadness over swept her
From them she’d wished for love In herself she had not found She gazed now to heaven above Alas, her stone heart began to pound!
In the clouds there shown a light A silvery, swirling, silent storm A whisper swept through the night And a face began to form…
There before her was the Mother The Goddess, Queen of All A wordless song she sang to her Of Hope, no matter how small
“Without you will not find What you seek if not within The past so shall you bind Your future must now begin”
“Release all that you regret So a moment you do not waste One lesson you must not forget Go now, child! Dream! Make haste!”
No longer did she weep For all that was gone or lost Her spirit began to soar and leap She would go on, no matter the cost
Down that mountain she did dance Floating, as if in a dream Focused mind, as if entranced She would cross the stream
To the stream now she came She knew what must be done She lifted her skirts without shame And she began to run
Through the water and towards the trees The birds sang a familiar chorus Cool wet grass beneath her feet She had reached the forest
At her touch the vines receded Warm sun began to shine To remind Hope is all that’s needed And a spark of the Divine
