A choice to be so blind as to not see
What is so clearly in front of your eyes
Ignorance does not make it go away
And I, the fool, know this best
Tripping over things in the dark
That are so well hidden in the light
Multiplying manifestations of debauchery
Birthed by wrongful word and deed
Haunted echoes of victims past
Like still frames of a wounded heart
A self-inflicted disease one might judge
And withhold the cure as penalty
An imagined eternity of purgatory
A spiders tangled web of ambiguity
A token gift of ill-fated euphoria
Wrapped in ribbons of complexities
Fragile mind like a garden maze
A hearts path wrought with wreckage
Lost at sea as the dark clouds roll in
No northern star to guide the way
Desperate purging of the guilty spirit
Preceded by binges of selfish endeavors
Shackled and chained to sinful memories
A feigned public display of iniquity
Fantasies of self indulged impulsiveness
Brought to fruition and then lamented
Giving way to angst and foreboding
Leaving but lonely suffering in its wake
As beautifully complex as the dark heavens
The heart of a woman bound with string
Callous handed sailor’s knots on silken cord
A romantic requiem for the Phoenix
