Save Yourself

There was a choice to make
Between you and I…
I chose you…
And you chose you
So I was lost to the winds
My spirit drifted on those winds
While I remained my heart’s prisoner
Stuck in that mire of you
Smothering, drowning, all consumed
And you didn’t save me
You were too busy saving yourself
Pitying your own fate
Blaming the world for your faults
Occupied putting your heart on ice
Never considering that I was struggling, too
Then that storm came
And the winds blew cold
The lightening struck and the thunder roared
And I was caught up in that storm
And was whisked away on that wind
I kept spinning and spinning
Dizzy, the world passing me by
And then, a glimpse
A flicker of reality
And I made eye contact with my spirit
I reached for the hand reaching out to me
And gripped so tightly
Holding on for dear life
And I was pulled out of that storm
Held safe in the embrace of Spirit
The winds died down
The last raindrops fell
The lightening faded and the thunder silenced
And I was free
And whole
And I realized that all this time
I didn’t need you to save me
All I had to do to save myself
Was find my own spirit
And reach out my hand…
