A Tale of Land and Sea

A wind whisper, told to me
A tragic story of land and sea
A love that never was to be
A tale of two hearts, never free
She the waves and he the sand
She the ocean, he the land
To her, in love, his offered hand
Promises of love so grand
Waves crashed upon the shore
Soaked her up and begged for more
Always waiting at her door
Echoed to her very core
“Come! Come! Follow me!”
He would call out to she
What he wished would never be
For he was earth, she, the sea
She would ebb and then flow
Further, further she would go
Though in her heart she did know
His sands the wind would surely blow
Raging skies, the tempest tossed
Both regardless of the cost
All was gone, no bridge to cross
In the storm, the lover’s lost
The sun would rise and also set
A mermaid caught in fisher’s net
Barely touching, still and yet
Only at the shoreline met
