Spider (Shadow Totem)

by Lunar Pixie

Age Group: Adult

Late at night,
I should be asleep,
I'm looking at the Spider on the ceiling.
"DADDY! Squish it!!!"
My hero.

Late at night,
I should go to bed,
I'm looking at the Spider on the floor.
"STEVIE! Catch it!!!"
My hero.

One day,
I see this bruise...
Damn! It hurts like hell!
Little did I know
What was in store...

It's worse,
Swelling, aching, bigger,
There's got to be something...
The woman Pendles,
"Black Widow"

All consuming,
Need to draw out the venom,
Remedies, mud packs, this really hurts!
I don't think to read,
To learn...

It's gone,
No pain, no swelling,
I'm all better now, forget about the spider.
It was nothing,
an accident.

'Til one day,
I'm bit AGAIN! Oh, man...
Perhaps there's something I should learn?
Spider Medicine,
Shadow Totems.

Write and draw...
Infinity, walk the threads between...
Spider Medicine,
Shadow Totems.

Filling up with stories...
Sketch pads full of visions, images...
Meditations in quiet times,
I'm trying...

Late at night,
I could be sleeping,
I'm looking at my story lines.
Were to go with
The story's Hero.

In Love And Light,
Lunar Pixie (The Original...)

Author's Notes: Talk about dense! I had to get bit TWICE before figuring out that maybe Spider had something to say to me! Not exactly the quickest, I'll admit. ;-)

Reading the various things that Spider can teach, as well as a bit about Shadow Totems (animals we fear may have the strongest lessons) helped me a lot.

When my leg was pendled over, the reply was positive for Black Widow. I later found out, though, I had been bitten by a Brown Recluse, or Fiddleback. Black Widow remedy worked, though. I read up on the significance of both types. Black Widow fits a little more, but there was some about Fiddleback that fits with me as well, so there you have it.

Since my learning about them, and putting into practice what I've learned... no more bites and I'm slowly getting over the fear. I see the occasional Wolf Spider in the house, but they don't freak me out TOO bad anymore... ;-)
