Daddy

by Rain Dove
 Age Group: Adult

Daddy
Into your arms at birth I went Wrapped in pride and love ! In your mind and in your eyes I hung the moon above !
Anything that I could want Was given at request As a baby and into youth I had the very best !
From dolls to bunnies to bikes to rocks My Daddy , my friend and strength From home to school to the sea's sandbox You taught me many things !
But evolvement of time from babe to lass And as a young adult emerged , Pride and love was not to last As lectures and advice were urged !
Disappointment and disgust were present As I struggled to be my own Making you proud and deserving your love Was hard once I was grown.
Things I did or said Was never quite good enough Our bond died a very slow death And our lives became so tough.
So very sad it was for us That you could not see my love And all that I really wanted again Was to hang the moon above !
I tried so hard to prove to you Before you left this world I was deserving of your love And that I was still your little girl.
Through bits of pain and heartaches And happy and joyful times too I hesitantly succumb to your lessons And even though grown , I grew !
I'm grateful for giving my thanks to you For those lessons that are so dear ! I know you loved me very much No doubt about that is clear !
Then in your dying bed and breath I know you finally saw Your baby wrapped in pride and love Still hung your moon after all !

Author's Notes: My father died in February of 2005. Eight months after my mother died. It has been and was .. and sometimes still is .. very trying. Losing them both so close together has been very difficult at times. I am at peace however , with both of their deaths. I find myself remembering all of our times together. Both good , bad , happy and sad. I miss him. My father was a very devout Mason. He had reached 32nd Degree in a very , very short time frame. He applied those lessons he had learned as a Mason in his own personal life. He also tried to teach me things throughout his life , things I would not listen to for a very long time. Finally , after failing miserably at so many things , I started listening. I truly started becoming the woman that I am. A dedicated wife , mother , grandmother .. and a confident Witch. And even though I disappointed him on many occasions , in the end, he saw that I had grown into the woman he had hoped I would be. I was so very glad that he was able to see this before he left this world. Not because it was so important to *make him proud* , but because I can live in peace knowing that he was.
