Our Feathered Teachers

Age Group: Adult
How sweetly they call the sun, bring a blush to the sky.
Flying freely, in their joy of flight they kiss the sky.
And if we watch them, what they could teach you and I!
Devoted parents, kindest lovers, gentle to eachother.
They share the raising of the young ones, father and mother.
They fight not, but share resources with one another.
Courtship dances and sweet long rituals, no hurry...
Fluttering wings and songs to sing with no worry.
Unlike humans, there is no need for the frantic scurry.
Why can't we all be so civil as the birds?
Why do we hurt with deeds and words?
When we could so easily share this world...
Let's all watch, learn from them!
Live free and happy with them...
Be kind and generous like them.
It would do us all a world of good,
if for a moment we all could
watch and learn...
...
Author's Notes: All my life, I have loved birds. So many times, I have seen how wonderful they are. Learning more today, I have found that so many can be great examples for us to follow.
Past observations, I've seen how smart and clever they can be. More recently, I have found how kind they are with eachother... sharing food and information. I have found that so many of them are just amazing parents. Many birds mate for life, and still, they repeat the coutship rituals. As if to say, "I still adore you..."
Not just pairs, there is the same devotion in flocks... food sharing and rasing young. There are some birds where careing for little ones is shared by family other than just parents or even others in the flock!
Watch them and read about them... you might be amazed at what you find! They are truly wonderful.
