Hail the Year

Hail vernal spring, when night equals day
When the Green man is cloaked in the buds of May
With the Lady He sits, and to Him She will sing
As the song of the birds from the trees start to ring
The year turns to summer, and the trees still are green
And flowers in the hills and the dales can be seen
Hail summer’s mid, when the sun is at peak
And wild things a sheltering shade will seek
The God and the Goddess come together to wed
We rejoice and prepare their marriage bed
The days have grown cold, and red are the leaves
Birds have sought shelter in our attics and eaves
Hail autumn harvest, with grains and with fruits
As we eat what was once such tiny green shoots
The Sun God has died, and the light starts to wane
He rests in the Goddesses womb again
The nights have grown long, and soft falls the snow
The evergreen stands 'gainst the cold wind’s blow
Hail the mid winter, rebirth of the sun
King Holly has lost and the Oak King has won
The snow starts to melt and buds will appear
The winter is gone; it’s a time of good cheer!
We awaken the earth and bless the new grain
It’s time for the year to begin again
