Who do you see?

Age Group: Adult
Who do you see before you?
Your sister?
Your neighbor?
A shadow?
Or do you see me at all?
Raised on guilt, suspicion and shame, I learned to fade away.
Not what you would call “well adjusted”
Not who you would call “friend”
No, I’m just a little to the left of centered,
A little to the right, past good judgment.
If you look at me, all you would see is…
A “nice” girl
A perfect victim
A shy stranger
A pleasant enough person you wouldn’t want to know.
What you don’t see is…
My anger
A shade
My grimace, as you carry on with frivolous conversation, oblivious to my pain
Loneliness
My passion
My need
