Crying Mother

It rains
Shaped like little teardrops
They fall to Her belly
Her womb
She’s lost someone dear to Her
And so She cries
We hope our love is enough to keep Her going
Yet She cries from hidden eyes
Nearer to the stars than we
But we know She cries
But even as She weeps
Her tears fall onto Her swollen belly
They soak in
To make Her fertile again
To replenish Her fluids
To refill Her veins
To make Her young again
And for this we thank Her
For She is the sustainer of life
The producer
The fertile Mother
Who loses so much for Her children
So that they may have
All they need
And so She is the crying Mother
Author's Notes: This poem was written on the full moon following Samhain. I couldn't have ritual at home, so I went out to my favorite park where the trees form a sacred space with one tree marking each of the four quarters. It was raining and I stepped into the circle and my full moon ritual was altered for that day. I stood in the center of the circle and prayed for the Goddess to feel better after her lover passed into the summerland. And as the rain fell upon me, I felt renewed, and this poem popped into my head.
