Turning of The Wheel - Yule thru Beltane

by Stanley Modrzyk or Dorothy Modrzyk
 Age Group: Adult

Turning Of The Wheel . . .
Each year the Earth shows forth the full cycle of Life - from Birth through Blossom, through Growth to Harvest and Death. All around the Seasons move like a Wheel as round and round the cycle ever flows.
Yule: The evergreen shows the promise of life to you and me. Greenest boughs through coldest storms - life within this tree. At Yule the Sun God’s rebirth fulfills that promise bright. His newborn strength brings hope and pushes back the night. Though all is cold and barren, and time seems to move so slow With time we know His radiance will grow and grow and grow. And the Wheel turns . . . . .
Imbolc: Barren and lifeless the trees, the ground still frozen and cold, The Sun God’s light has done little to weaken strong Winters hold. At Imbolc we gather together and hold forth candles of light To add our aid to the Sun God in moving back the night And also to brighten the path of the Goddess’ return from below – A shining into the underworld – a flicker, a glimmer, a glow! And the Wheel turns on . . . . .
Spring Equinox Sun’s light and Darkness are equal, the Goddess returns from below. The Earth heeds their call for renewal and life begins to flow. First leaves on the trees are unfurling and opening wide to His light. Her breath from the South is removing the last of cold Winter’s white. Renewal and life are around us, we see it wherever we go. Things that were barren and lifeless once again have begun to grow. And the Wheel turns on . . . .
Beltane First flowers bloom all around us; the ground is now fertile and turned. Winter’s dross has been baled on the hillside and to purify soon will be burned. Spring fever has reached a high frenzy, emotions soon will let go; That all things in Nature be fertilized, in field after field they will sow. For the Harvest of Fall is now planted; what we need now must be done – In this time of greatest fertility – when in Nature two are now one. And the Wheel turns on . . . .
Author's Notes: This is the first four parts of the eight part poem that appeared beneath the illustrations at the start of each of the chapters commemorating the points on the Wheel of Life celebrated by Wicca. It is meant to open a feeling for the season.
Prior to each of the festivals I will post the continuing verses.
