Of Love

Love...
Love is love, isn't it?
Surely, no matter how I love you,
No one can fault me for it?
You return these feelings,
Or so you assure me,
As do the lights in your eyes
And the secret smiles
That play on your face.
So how can they say that?
How can they look at me in such a way?
They say I've corrupted you -
For surely, they believe,
You could never have come to this
On your own.
Together?
Yes, we are together.
We are here now,
We are in each other's thoughts,
In each other's souls.
I see you in the sky,
I see your face when the sun blinds me.
I hear your voice when the trees rustle.
I hear you sing when the waves crash.
I remember you tumbling along the beach,
Sand encrusted up to your knees.
I want to see you again.
I want to kiss you again.
Why does your family hide you away?
Out of protection?
Out of their love for you?
Love?
They cannot speak of love;
If they react like this,
They know nothing of the word.
Your mother cries when
She sees me on the streets.
Your brother glares.
Your sister stares.
Your father only smiles sadly.
It may be him that knows something
Of Love.
In a world like ours,
What can everyone know
Of Love?
Of Kindness?
Of Sorrow?
Sorrow, yes sorrow.
I feel that now.
Maybe your father will
Let you escape.
Maybe we shall escape together.
We are together.
My eyes close and
My face relaxes;
Can't everyone see how
Love shows on our faces?
How we are imprinted on each other's
Bodies, on each other's very
Existence?
What do they know
Of Love?
I wonder,
When the stars shine,
What they know
Of Truth,
Of Virtue,
Of Honesty,
Of Love.
I want them to
Look me in the eyes,
And tell me how my Love
Threatens them.
They don't need to like it.
They don't need to think of it.
My Love is for me.
It's mine.
