The Burning Times
by Silver Lotus Moon
Age Group: Adult
There was a burning smell
and a darkening stain
coming from the streets--
remnants of the work of God
or so they said.
After all, they knew what He wanted,
knew that God was not a She
so that they upturned
all that had ever been believed
back before the advent
of their male sky-God
who ruled with an iron fist
and advocated the murder
of the innocent.
This is how these things came to be--
women, ruined by men
who worked as witch-hunters
for profit
all while retaining
the male sky-God mouth-piece's approval.
And this is how their religion grew:
by taking out the "heretics",
the "witches",
and the "sorcereresses".
These deserved to die
for the crime of belief
in a faith that existed long before theirs,
but they, in all of their ignorance
ascribed to the latest trend,
the latest fashion--
and wiped out those who dared to wear
the clothes of yesteryear.
