The Small, Lovely Tree (Hellenic Polytheistic)

A beautiful tree stands alone in the life of Summer,
its leaves green and some with a reddish tint.
For about eight or nine feet, it reaches to the sky of Zeus,
and radiates so much life that I can almost see it breathe.
It catches my eye each time I pass,
for it possesses a perfect expression of the Gods' love.
Its life is among the most enchanting,
for it lives on and on.
So noble does it stand,
for it has never harmed another,
never started a war,
the spirit within giving its leaves the dance of Nature,
as the winds of Aeolus blow through them.
So simple and peaceful,
important, meaningful and magickal,
yet few notice in their busy and mundane life.
May this tree stand forever,
even long after I am gone,
and perhaps one day I will return to join it in its ever-lasting glory.
Author's Notes: This poem reflects physical as well as spiritual reality. Each day that I would go visit my grandmother, I would pass by a small tree that stood in her neighbor's yard, and for some reason, this little tree captivated me and inspired me to write a poem about it. After I was published in Green Egg magazine for the first time, I submitted this poem, but it was never published. So I decided to share it with the Hellenic and general Pagan communities.
