The Naturalist - An Ode to Pat
by Hoosier Hedgewitch
Age Group: Adult
The kind who live among the trees,
plants and birds and bumblebees,
sense the spirit of the earth,
her gifts and blessings, all her worth.
As we are here and earthly bound,
divine can touch us through the ground.
The trees, the bush, the firefly,
and from above, the big blue sky.
To feel the earth and all its gifts,
the change of seasons and the shifts.
Centered in her lap of One,
our best works are truly done.
The common thread connects us all,
through winter, spring, summer, fall.
Life has seasons that unfold,
Just like nature, stories told.
If we can truly catch that spark,
make a light out of the dark.
Water, earth, air, and fire,
help us catch what we desire.
A full moon, shining stars aglow,
dancing spirit waters flow.
through all the gifts that nature brings
while the sparrow softly sings.
We’ll always walk among the trees,
smell the flowers and feel the breeze
Although nature changes face,
one still lives through nature’s grace.
Swirling, whirling, from above
spirit soars on snow white dove.
forever shining, light and dark,
forever burning sacred spark.
Author's Notes: The Naturalist - An Ode to Pat
Pat was killed last night in a car accident. He has been the naturalist at Gene Stratton Porter State Historic Site in Rome City, Indiana, for almost as long as I can remember.
