The Cardinal

Age Group: Adult
In nature there are forces
and all sides have a say,
cloudy, snowy, sleet and rain,
a clear and sunny day.
The father cardinal in bright red,
and female plays a role.
From the nest where life begins
where all of us must toll.
We do not see the cardinal
hidden cloistered up above,
deciding things for all the woods
the bear, the owl, the dove.
If nature thus provided
an example for us all,
then why do human cardinals vote
from high behind a wall.
The female can, in fact, say grace
and does it all the time,
even though subdued at best
and kept out of the rhyme.
Up in the tower, black smoke is seen,
still no need to guess.
Their leader chosen once again,
still does not wear a dress.
