Dark Days

Dark days in History,
Awaiting the bite of a flea,
Children sing Ring ‘round the rosy,
While parents rot on bended knee.
Dark days in History,
Cast a straw in Salem’s lot.
Will you float, will you burn,
It tells us if you’re not.
Dark days in History,
One man to own another,
No pain, no shame, no loss of soul,
He is not my brother.
Dark days in History,
The winning of the west.
Acquiring the tops of heads,
A mark that you have passed the test
Dark days in History,
Waiting in line for bread,
Going back to the shriveling child,
Lying helpless and unfed.
Dark days in History,
Hiding under the floor,
Knowing the time is near,
When you may hear the chamber’s roar.
Dark days in History,
Blood is spilt on the sand.
The biggest and the strongest,
Have again consumed the land.
Dark days in History,
Always ever, will they fend.
Lonely cries, shouts of fear.
Man’s need to meet his end.
