Memory
It plays like a child
Among these forgotten stones
It creeps up to you
And jumps into your arms
Filling the emptiness
If you are not careful
It will leave you
Here in these weeds
Near the oldest plots
Where names would be hard to read
If anyone bothered anymore
And even on the brightest days
The trees keep away the sun
You can hear its voice
Whispering
Stirring the stillness
Floating with the bird song
To kiss your ear with its gentleness
If you are not careful
You will fall in love with it
This charnel ground will keep you
Bound to your foot worn paths in the earth
Your mind will drift them when you are gone
And when for a moment
The world beyond those cemetery gates lets go
Your ghost will mingle here with the others
Who were trapped just like you
Graveyard wanderers in mourning
Who also know heartache
How it haunts us

Author's Notes: I wrote this one day when I was thinking of grief and how it can overwhelm us and trap us in it's grasp. If we are not careful all the things around us that are still good and alive can seem to disapear and before we know it we may have lost more than we thought...
