The Trail

Claws of a killer on the whitest snow
I leave a trail for all to follow
And I press on through bitterest cold
Seeking, searching for that gift untold
In the darkenss I howl and await an answer
But the wind bears not a howling dancer
So the snow and I cold company keep
And watch the moonlit world asleep
Wolf dreams full of lustful feeding
Wolf dreams filled with scents misleading
I chased them far, far away from here
But the trail led only to loss and fear
So out in the cold with my full black coat
Crisp is the air that cools my throat
I am prowling and hunting at winters edge
Growing stronger each day, each and every breath
Apart from the world where the cold cannot reach
That alone was the lesson for you to teach
