The Mysteries Redux

Your wanderings in the world at last
have changed you from a man into an ass.
Brutish pleasures and sullen delights
make play your days and fill your sights.
Find your remedy at the lake
and see what form your visions take.
Beside the lake, the sight you see
will make you a human mystery.
Roar of trumpets and here we go,
drink this drink to see the show.
Told a tale and shown a sight,
reborn will be your soul this night.
The sacred drink is the source
of the vision's holy force:
A grieving mother, a head of wheat,
a child screaming beside the seat.
The fire's light on skin of gold
transmuted by ambrosia's hold.
The Goddess revealed in her might
shatters the heart and makes it light.
But the vision's just the start;
more is needed than a shattered heart.
Down to death you must aspire
to find the source of sacred fire.
I travel down the secret stairs
and fight my way through monster lairs.
Stripped of power before each gate,
my heart is measured against the weight.
The scales tremble up and down
to find the balance already found.
On her throne, I can see
the image of the Goddess Persephone.
She grants me passage through horn-made gate
to ascend to my stellar fate.
I'm lifted up into the sky
gazing down on Earth from on high.
