The Red-Headed Woodpecker and the Old Farm House

by HoosierHedgewitch
 Age Group: Adult

On a bright sunny morning in the early month of May, still half asleep, not prepared for the day, all of a sudden the house started to clang, a jack-hammer pounding, we awoke with a bang!
The old farm house rattled and shook, I quickly sat up to get a good look. The siding outside continued to clang, rattie tat-tat, bang, bang, bang!
Now 7 a.m., all started to fly, I caught it all out the corner of one eye. The fluffy white cat with the big poofy tail, over the bed he started his sail, sliding across the old oak floor, over the sofa, I saw him soar. Two chairs later, the table cloth in a ball, I looked out the window, could not believe what I saw.
The yard was full of big green trees, but the Red-Headed Woodpecker, these could not please. I was laughing so hard I could not speak, the jack-hammer pounding was the woodpecker’s beak.
The cat to the window, his tail flicking about, The woodpecker perched on the water spout. Just when we thought it was about to end. Rattie-tat-tat started again.
This went on for quite some time, Rattie tat-tat now sounded in rhyme. The following morning at 7 a.m. The Red-Headed Woodpecker started again!
This went on for over a week, pounding and pounding away with his beak. It finally stopped, and we all got some rest, except for the cat doing his best. He waited and waited, behind lace curtains he hid, catch the woodpecker, he never did!
Author's Notes: Yes, it is true! I guess he liked the aluminum siding and the water spout better than those big 'ol trees.
