I watch you sleeping on the bed,
dreaming ‘bout the world,
I reminisce of how we met,
and memories are swirled.
A different country, time, and place,
2, 000 miles all told.
What are the chances we would meet,
two lives, now one unfold.
Beside all that and on top of
a walk I took that night,
and then I saw you from afar
beneath the WalMart light.
So tiny, bobbing head, and fur,
your eyes just open slight,
you and I, a bond we had
beneath the WalMart light.
A bed, a bowl, some flea shampoo,
thoughts of love we’d share,
You must admit, all said and done,
we sure make quite a pair.
I cannot think on that one night
we could have missed the chance
to share a hug, a walk, a ride,
a big ol' brown-eyed glance.
I guess the stars were on our side,
the planets turning right,
to see you there, a life to share,
beneath the WalMart light.
Author's Notes: I met my best friend in Mexico one fateful night. For some reason, I decided to go for a walk and saw someone holding what looked like a sock puppet inside the WalMart parking garage, right outside the main entrance to the store. It was love at first sight!
