Winter Swing

I think I shall take a seat
Upon the wooden swing
And there I’ll sit to rest awhile,
Embrace the winter’s sting.
Whilst I sit, perchance to think
Upon my life, loves lost, cold fate.
“Is this the future, ” I observe,
“A table graced by single plate?”
“No!” insists some inner angel.
“Behold the crimson roses budding,
growing through the brumal snow,
fragrant, certain springtime’s coming.”
Refreshed by hope, I rise and smile,
salute the wooden swing;
departing, then, braced by the chill,
to climes the morrows bring.
