Night on the town

Age Group: Adult
Disillusioned the bubble bursts
The old facade of wishing wells
lay upon a fine parched soil
lingering within its thirst
For roots that once it was.
Many the pages that craft by pen
the story written way back when
filters through to this our age
in words dressed upon a drunken sage
That spins his tongue where bitter the shard
falls downward with slight regard
For the manner it is approached.
I hear the sirens wail upon the night
where faded stars dress the cocaine flight
The quickened breath, the hovering sigh
The lights of the city on a high.
Poor the forgotten, the dead become
the slow worn particles that dress the bone
the worn flesh that shows the pain
That drips from a needle within the vein.
Tears flow from the whores embrace
where anothers thoughts, flee their trace
Lost horizons dress the planes
Where walking skeletons are what remains.
The crap shot alleys,
the mingled urine upon the air
The sludge filled hovels, here, there
Little stains upon societies fringed sheets
That in the background fading-Beats.
Lost a generation upon the fields
where illusion dresses Holds and yields
everything sanctimonious, every drop a lie
The statesman, the convict that together lie.
There beats the child not yet born
a faint reminder of promises sworn
The laminations of old men's eyes
To the startling tale of a baby's cries.
