For so many years
You tried to hold me down,
Clip my wings
Deny me flight
Into the sky I so longed for
But not anymore
My gilded cage has been opened
The sky, my right, I claim
My wings are strong,
They bear no scars
I cry to my Lady,
Bow to my Lord
They see me, call to me
I cannot return to them,
Because I never truly left them
They laugh and become like me
And hundreds, millions, join us
To frolic through the skies
We test out wings, my brothers, sisters and I
Like little starlings we follow
Our Lady hawk and Lord falcon
Twisting, wheeling, dancing through the sky
With our hearts, our wings, our cries!
We claim what is ours
My Wiccan family, and I.
Author's Notes: This is a taste of what my life was like as a teen in high school. My mother is a faithful Christian, and she tried for years to deny me my flight into Wicca. Thank the Lady for computers at school, and the Lord for ingenious places and way to hide books on Wicca. ;) Now that I am an adult and no longer live with my parents, I can truly claim what is mine-- my freedom and joy to be Wiccan!!!
Oh, and blessings on Luna, who was the first to read and give her opinion on the first poem I published on Witchvox. (This is the second.) Blessed be, Luna!!
