Retort to a Muse

Silence resounds in the muses' halls;
Dust settles, ever thicker, day by day,
For poetry does not come when called.
Diamonds shivering down waterfalls
Evoke no odes nor lyrical display;
Silence resounds in the muses' halls.
Roiling clouds or turbulent sea squalls
May rage, but, un-remembered, always fade,
For poetry does not come when called.
Rap at the door; toll the brazen bell.
The song is sung; the piper's yet unpaid.
Silence resounds in the muses' halls.
These weeks, these years of offering my all,
All, at the end, trailing off in vain-
For poetry does not come when called.
May your wings rot, then, and this blanket be your pall:
All those verses I've woven for your fame.
Silence resounds in the muses' halls,
