Rebirth

My breath hangs in the air
tattered
no regrets
I'm not sure I believe him
anymore
Withered glory underfoot,
chilling breezes:
summer's bliss decays,
first overripe, then dessicated;
a half-sigh: "there is beauty,
even here,
and truth."
Truth - the holy of holies;
Like Isaiah, unworthy to speak:
Take a coal to my lips.
The veils, pedestals, and comforting illusions
died-
our own holocaust.
Now? ashes and the dead ground;
I dare not hold my breath
for phoenixes or lilacs.
