Flowers

by Ann Marcotte
 Age Group: Adult

Flowers
She went home today Her frail and pale body finally at peace I could not bear to see her that way A fragment of the woman she once was
All of a sudden rushes of memories gone by Come pouring through me And the emotions took me by storm
Only the shell of her remained Her body at last suffering no pain A soft and elegant flower she was Never a selfish act I can remember Her life spent caring for ones she loved And even those whose names she did not know
Flowers surrounded her at all times As they do now in death How can someone be so selfless I ask myself and I wish She could have shared with me The secret of her strength And now I will never know
How could the prettiest coffin The most beautiful and fragrant flowers The kindest words Be enough to represent the lady she was
We put her in her resting place Beside her true love Finally together again and Young in spirit renewed
Finally she is with her God Who she dedicated her life to without ceasing The sun once again shines upon her face And her feet feel the green fresh grass
One day I will hold her hand again And walk beside her By then I hope to have learned what she knew How to be strong in what you believe without offense Always a lady and Showing love at all times even in adversity
Maybe she will look down on me from above And send her love and wisdom to help me find my way
Rest peacefully sweet sweet angel And wait for the rest of us who held you so dear For it will not be long before we meet again
Gertrude West 1912 to 2006 One of the most magnificent flowers created
