The Chalice

The Chalice
There once was a chalice that was shiny and beautiful. She could see herself in the mirror all the time and just knew she was the purest of gold and treasured above all else. Her owner always told her how much he loved her and how she was the best chalice he had ever had.
She was lonely for friends and wanted some new ones. Then one day, there came a couple of new chalices and they were all gazing upon themselves in the mirror. The first chalice was shocked to find that she was not at all as great as she thought she was - because her owner now only used her when they were alone. The newer chalices were in fact the favorites for special occasions and social events. During those occasions, she was pushed aside and ignored.
Despite how much her owner told her he still loved her above all else and still loved having her, it was hard for her to believe. His actions proved otherwise, although she wondered if he were aware of it -- he would only use her when no one else was around. How would she ever think herself so special again? She knew in her heart that she was the cause of her own spoil because she had wished for this companionship, for these new friends - and now she would be the one to pay the price -- she now had to face what she truly was -- only brass -- she was never gold.
