You Think You Know Me

You think you know me?
You’ve got no clue.
All my life I’ve fought for what I’ve managed to achieve
Fought to keep the things I’ve acquired.
The respect people have for me wasn’t just given
It was earned
It was learned
And I will do anything to keep it.
My love of the Goddess and God
Was born with me
The knowledge that They are always with me
Something that cannot be burned from my memory
No matter how much Christian propaganda is thrown in my face
I am my own person
I am more than anyone ever expected me to be
Creative writing is something I love and enjoy
Spinning a tale from scratch a challenge that not many can match
I can dance the Sabbats with my eyes closed
Ring out Their praises in my sleep
Everywhere I go,
The seasons walk with me
The Elements call to me like the eyes of a lover
Hands of Air whispering along my arms and face
Breath of Fire sighing across my back and chest
Voice of Earth echoing in my ears, Its song on my tongue
Scent of Water tickling my nose, Its coolness lapping at my ankles
All an extension of the Goddess and God
Yet also an extension of my brightly burning Soul
You think you know me?
You’ve got no idea
I’m not your slave
I’m not your “God’s” child
And I never will be
I respect that you think you can change me
Even though you are forever destined to fail
I respect that you think you will be able to eventually convert or destroy me
But I will not bow to your will
As you will not bow to me
So we arrive now at a standstill
I, a Daughter of the Goddess and God
Follower of the Old Ways
You, a daughter/son of God and Jesus Christ
Follower of the Color-Blind Way
Neither of us able to move forward
But unwilling to take a step back
Know that I mean you no disrespect
Only that I mean you to leave me alone
I am free
I am myself
And not you or anyone else
Will be stupid enough to attempt to take that from me
You think you know me?
You’ve got no clue.
Author's Notes: I think I should elaborate on this poem. I was listening to Remember the Name by Fort Minor, and thought about all the times someone tried to make me into someone I wasn’t, something I’d never be. And this poem spewed forth as though guided by Divine hands. It was not my intention to be mean, harsh, or to offend anyone. It was more or less a way to vent. I do hope that is understood here. Thank you for read.
