La Nascita di Venere

The dark Zephyrus and his bride,
bedecked with wings,
coming from the sensuous Western Watchtower,
in each others embrace.
Apple blossoms billow about them,
riding their aromatic breath,
and their gaze rests on Her.
She is the altar,
the centerpiece,
her boat a scallop burst open,
clinging to water reeds and sea greens.
Even as a newborn,
that amorous look lingers in her mahogany stare,
feeds off of the amber tresses that curve
in waves to pool over her hands.
And she is in the bay of Cyprus,
where upon the forested beach stands Horae,
clothed in white,
clutching rosy cloth in her lusty grip,
a banner for the Olympian,
borne of the sea.
Author's Notes: This was based off of the Birth of Venus painting by Sandro Botticelli. The title is actually the name of the painting in Italian. The original poem I wrote was for a project in a poetry class I had during my sophomore year in high school, but I've tweeked it just a bit.
