Breathless

by Moon Dragon
 Age Group: Adult

Breathless A question that was asked of me, what steals my breath away, So many things come to mind, too many to list or say, But here are a few experiences I've had along the way, That filled my consciousness with awe, and took my breath away. Looking out the window of a plane from thirty thousand feet up, Riding on the deck of a schooner as the sails go up, Standing next to an Apollo rocket that has traveled to the moon, Standing next to my favorite rock star as I begin to swoon, Doing magic, seeing it work, and knowing that it is real, Knowing there is more out there than my senses can see and feel, Looking deep into the dark and seeing a face I don't know, Then sharing a message that is true with someone the face does know, The sky filled with falling stars during a timeless meteor shower, A train that can climb a mountain with coal and steam for power, In the spring a bumble bee that walks gently across my hand, A summer storm that makes the ocean pound down upon the sand, Or in the fall, the trees ablaze with yellow, orange, and red, The crisp clean smell of the coming winter fills my lungs and head, Standing in a snow storm where the silence is complete, Hearing nothing but my breath, and the crunch beneath my feet, A crocus pushing through the snow to display its vibrant bloom, A lightening bolt that cracks the sky, followed by a loud boom, Standing on a mountain looking over miles of rock and snow, Walking the paths in nature where man will hardly ever go, When my husband knelt down and asked me to be the one, The day my doctor told me I was pregnant with my son, Hearing my daughter's barrel laugh, a smile upon her face, Watching her grow into a woman, with beauty, poise, and grace, Feeling the love I never dreamed that I would be a part, The kind that fills up your soul and overflows your heart, So many things steal my breath away within this very life, But none can do it more than who I am, a mother and a wife. by Beth Washington Copyright 2008 Beth Washington
