The Goddess of Winter

Age Group: Adult
The Goddess of Winter walks the land,
Her dress like snow on the wind,
With a gentle sweep of her hand,
Beneath ice the earth is pinned.
But even still, a memory stirs,
Of flowers, of warmth, of sun,
As Winter’s breath blows through the firs,
Its time is almost done.
The ewes grow restless on the moors,
As the lambs’ arrival nears,
In the sky, the robin sores,
His song of Spring one hears.
Deep beneath the frozen soil,
The crocus buds begin to grow,
And soon their flowers will uncoil,
As Spring’s breath begins to blow.
And then the Winter Goddess greets,
The Maiden of the Spring,
The ice will melt as the cold retreats,
With the warmth the sun will bring.
So light a candle and watch it burn,
And bundle up against the cold,
And celebrate the sun’s return,
Knowing Spring will soon unfold.
