What Is Magick?
It’s when your eyes meet for the first time, you know, the one that makes the back of your knees sweat.
It’s when you gaze so long you commit it ‘to memory’.
It’s when one becomes two and becomes a family.
It’s when you hold your child in your arms for the very first time.
Or when she speaks her first word. Or takes her first step.
It’s being Santa…at 5AM…just in the nick of time.
It’s when you realize that your mother is a person in her own right and she is your dearest friend.
It’s when you find your best friend again after 20 years and despite everything, you giggle like a teenager, transcending both space and time.
It’s loving someone enough to let them go on to love someone else. And it’s okay. And you’re still friends……
It’s that mind blowing orgasm that makes your body sing.
It’s that shiny old caddy…or ‘Jesus Chrysler’…or Wrentham House.
It’s Castle Hill.
It’s the sound of the ocean, the strength of the wind, the warmth of the sun, the turning of the leaves, the silence of the snow.
It’s the song that makes your heart sing,
Or breaks it all over again.
It’s that perfect dance in the moonlight.
Or making love in the rain.
It’s that cold martini after a long hard day.
Or a glass of good wine, curled up with a great book, in front of a fire on a long winter’s night.
It’s the first time you step upon the stage
And what sustains you that last curtain call.
It’s knowing that we are more than ourselves and beyond our differences.
It’s when all the words and all the music come together after a long writer’s block.
It’s knowing what you say and how you say it is okay…
Because it’s safe and it’s honest and it’s true…
Because it’s Magick.
