Of Earth and Fire

I am a creature of earth.
I am a creature of fire.
The Powers that Be mixed:
What strength of mind I have.
The Powers that Be mingled:
What creativity I have.
The Powers that Be tested:
Leaving only an unstable mess.
Day to day I balance earth and fire,
Keeping earth just slightly ahead.
If earth wins:
Pain takes over, fatigue spreads.
Thumping, pounding, trembling,
Earthquakes travel my spine to my head.
If fire wins:
Pain takes over, energy flares.
Stabbing, sparking, burning,
Brain slashed to ribbons, seeing stars.
Give me air, peaceful and flowing,
Calm the trembling earth.
Give me water, solemn and powerful,
Quiet the raging fire.
I stand alone as the skies open,
Wrapping me in wind,
Anointing me with rain.
I am a child of nature,
Communing with the elements,
Reestablishing myself;
Finally at peace.
Author's Notes: I rarely write poetry... but when I do it tends to have a lot of meaning. I like this one, written after a storm when I wished I was out dancing in the rain.
I have been diagnosed with chronic daily migraine, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, among others. That's what this is about. I feel more at peace standing in the rain than in bed aching... at least for a change being inside provided something worthwhile.
