The Call

The Call

I feel the call, an irresistible pull to return to the path I walked so naturally as a child.
Filled with wonder, awe, excitement and gratitude I traversed nature's lanes, passages and pathways.

I traveled along roads both familiar to me and the uncharted territory I felt invited to explore.

I spent hours meditating (though I did not know that was the name for it then) I connected to all that was around me.
Uninhibited, I communicated with everyone and everything I came in contact with.

I felt truly alive erupting with energy.
I was filled with curiosity and desire to truly know the universe we are all a part of.

Entire summers were spent in the forests, at the ocean, lakes, rivers, and streams, I tasted of them all.

All manner of creatures and beings knew me and I knew them.
Every living thing both real and imagined were my companions and confidants.

I spoke with the lords and ladies of the wood, the wee folk, the animals, the trees, plants and various other life forms.

I frolicked with the rulers of the sea, the keepers of the gates to other realms and worlds.

Sometimes I felt nervous as I entered uncharted territory or moved forward into the unknown.

Yet my excitement, my curiosity, my passion and desire to see,
to connect, would override any of my rising fears.

I wanted to see ghosts, to chat with fairies, to catch a glimpse of beings and creatures I had only read about or imagined.

I wanted to experience all I felt around me.

I contimplated being a witness to something grand or perhaps something horrible to look upon.
I wanted it whatever it was.
I took my chances as I slowly opened the doorway, or rounded a bend, possibly entering a new dimension.

I felt at home in the woods and I still do.
I feel alive and complete in wild and natural places.

Still to this day I follow the rythms of nature.
I answer the call of the seasons and the voices of nature that invite me to explore.

I am recharged, rejuvenated, reconnected to myself and to all every time I am in nature.

The call I first heard as a young girl is a call as ancient as mother Earth herself.

Earth mother's dark rich soil cool against my feet.
Grass soft and prickly against my skin.
Sunlight that is warm and cool playfully dancing through the branches of trees.

I wander with intention through boughs and branches that seem to bend to greet me, to reach me, to lead the way.

Intuition my guide, my gift, my navigation through these path ways in the wood.
Rocks, caves, animals, trees, plants and birds each with their distinct voices and stories to tell.

I sit quietly a while observing all, every detail. I listen, I watch,
I wait, I am one with all.

I breathe in the sweet and clean scents of pine, soil, leaves and the damp earth around me.

I recall memories of long days exploring the wood as a child. Returning again and again to the place I feel most at home.

I recall memories of forests, mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers and streams.

I recall my thoughts, feelings and wondrous experiences I had as a child in these beautiful natural places.

Then I bring myself back to the present, to this moment, I am here again in these wonderful magical places.

I am a woman now yet I have not lost my awe, my wonder, my curiosity and desire to be here one with nature.

Earth is our mother, the cradle of life.
We cannot be anything but one with nature for we are all nature.

So I travel the spiral reconnecting with myself, with nature, with earth mother.

I am one with all creatures, all beings, all life.

I am.
