The Lesson of the Leaf

Age Group: Adult
A little leaf fell from the sky,
To my windshield it did fall,
And as I drove it fluttered there,
With life lessons to recall.
Its yellow color spoke of summer,
So bright, and warm, and long,
It's sturdy stem spoke of the tree,
That grew up big and strong.
The five main veins within the leaf,
With the life they're meant to bring,
Spoke of the elements within us all,
From which all things do spring.
Earth, Air, Fire, and Water,
And above them all is Spirit,
A simple lesson we should know,
All we need to do is hear it.
For within us all is the summer sun,
That makes us strong inside,
And the elements all play their roles,
To our very lives they're tied.
And with the coming of the Fall,
We remove all that serves us not,
To allow our selves to rest a while,
To reflect in mind and thought.
For in the Spring we will renew,
As the tree will grow new leaves,
There are no endings in the circle,
That life around us weaves.
With its message clearly spoken,
The leaf flew from my car,
And left me thinking thoughts of life,
And how we've come so far.
