Autumn Goddess

Autumn Goddess
Silently she walks,
Like a gentle breeze in the grass,
The blades rustle softly against each other.
A cold breath of air follows her steps,
Putting to sleep the summer flowers,
The promise of new life,
Clinging to the dried remains.
She raises her arms,
As if she's directing a symphony,
And the trees respond with glory,
Their leaves producing a fire in the sky.
The music of the wind in their branches,
Brings the brilliant color to the ground,
A blanket for the forest floor.
The sun dips lower to rest,
And the nights grow long.
Frost paints the world with dabs of white,
Lining her footprints in the soil.
As she disappears into the naked forest,
Her last footsteps are in the snow.
