Elfsong

The moon rises,
chasing away the ever rising sun
With the silence that it settles,
the emptiness within the forest
The eyes of many open,
the light of their Mother
They hear the cries of their brethern,
howling from the mountain cliffs
They smell the fear awaking,
the smell of their prey running in fright
They run with the wind at their side,
steady and silent stalking their prey
They know tonight they will feast,
with the hunger that warriors have
But they are not just warriors
They are the children of Her light,
becuase the sun burns to fierce
They cry to be with Her,
singing a melody of sadness
But many the night they sing of the hunt,
a melody of glory and ecastasy
But as She begins to hide,
from the ever rising sun
They too hide,
from the ever rising sun
But not just from the ever rising sun
From their other brethern
the brethern of the sun
The ones that hunt them
the ones that die
The ones that cause such pain,
not just for them but for their prey as well
But the next night
They will rise anyway
with a new moonlight of hope
With their eyes of silver
and their swords of courage
Author's Notes: I heard some legend say that all mortals are a descent of wolves and that elves were closer relatives than mortals. Elves could change into the form they were closest to, many were wolves.
