Crone's Book

chapter i. waiting
i am Crone, grown old with winter's
hoary crown of stars & snow;
'neath cloak of dark decembers
autumn crescent hides my brow.
i come knocking at thy doorstep
bending low with wind & years
but my children do not answer;
in the silent dark they fear.
chapter ii. waning
when the nightwind brings the waning
of the august cricket's song
& the evening dims, from Hallows
till the solstice sun burns long,
look inside thyself & know me
in the depths of winter's heart;
pale Diana be thy mirror
when shadows dim the stars.
chapter iii. waxing
then the Crone grown cold with winter
bends to warm her brittle bones
at the fires we are tending;
icy fingers chafe our souls
as the Crone grown wise with winter
opens shadowed books of night
& with eyes of frost & fire reads
what's written down in Light.
