Photographic memory

I wish I could have photographed that moment,
frozen it, captured like bugs in glass jars, suffocating on the paper
but I would not have known which to choose:
the smell of your shirt, the tight embrace, your breath on my shoulder, your words in my ear, or the too-soon goodbye.
I wish I could have photographed that moment,
and maybe I could have, with my camera nearby but
it would not have been the same, would not have been any sort
of reproduction, of the beauty and happiness I felt,
my skin must have radiated, I am so certain with the
comfortable, wonderful, feeling I have when I am close to you.
I wish I could have photographed that moment,
so that later, even minutes, moments later, when I no longer
could believe it was real, I could look back and confirm
but the intangible is impossible to preserve tangibly
and so all I can do is long for the next moment we create.
