Little One

And he said to me,
"My Little One...as I wrap
my arms around you
and pull you tight to me
I find that
of all soul's hearts
you bear witness to mine
and entreat me
like no other.
"Ah! The curve of your cheek;
the flutter of your lash;
the smile that turns slightly down
to lips rosied by kisses sweet
you enslave me to your heart...
would that you be with me
all my days until the light shines
no more from eyes that sparkle..."
And so it was....
my sparkle left upon his betrayal's shore
yet forgiveness shimmered in the wind
and still he left for lands of his birth
fully knowing that in my letting go he was
released from my promise of all days...
but he forgot that the release of one must
gain the release of the other
and so, even in the twilight of day
I can still feel him there - just as he feels me
and only because he just never let go
of his Little One....me.
