Jackpot!

Jackpot!
They say that there is every reason
to draw upon luck's door every day
but I am not of that following
nor do I care to be.
But given an opportunity
upon the urging of friends
and coworkers white shades,
I fell in with a motley bunch.
Shaking my cornered purse
I gave in to my fate
and wagered the last
pigment of my emancipation.
Wavering between the good
bad, ugly and indifferent
I stood alone in the crowd to hear,
"We have a winner!"
All racing for those
ill-gotten gains, I parted
the crowd as moses incarnate,
and destroyed hope in those faces.
Caught off-guard I was asked
do I come here often?
