I Remember

by Kelly
 Age Group: Adult

When I take a dollar from my purse, I remember when you had given us your last dollar.
When I feel we don't have enough money to go around, I remember you raised two girls on less money.
When I have had a bad day at work, I remember when you worked long hard days and had to still come home and take care of us.
When I get tired of listening to friend’s problems, I remember how your ears are always open for us.
When I see a teenager being snotty towards a sibling or parent, I remember my rebellious years and how much you still loved me.
When I start to wish I was rich, I remember when we didn't have money even for food and I think I am rich, we still have each other.
When I think about Dad and wonder why he can't love me the way I am, I remember your unconditional love.
When I cuddle and hold Gayle when she cries, I remember your arms hugging my bad times away - even over the phone.
When ever I feel I can't handle anything any more, I remember how strong you are for yourself and us.
When I get angry with someone, I remember how forgiving you are.
When I think of the mistakes I have made, I remember you were always there to pick me up and listen to the lesson I had learned.
When I graduated college, I remember the pride on your face.
When I get scared of life and what it holds for me, I remember how everything seemed stacked against you and you made it through and still are.
When I help someone, I remember how you always help people.
When I have to do laundry and think of how much I hate it, I remember you hanging our clothes outside in the winter.
When I don't feel like cleaning my house, I remember we could have eaten off of your floors.
When I look into a mirror, I see you. Not in my face but in my heart, because I remember the values, lessons, and love you have always shown me.
When ever I feel the sun on my face or the wind in my hair, I remember those wonderful long bike rides we took.
When I feel the week going badly, I remember our "family weekends" are close at hand.
When my life flourishes, your influence shines and I remember...
Love Kelly
Author's Notes: I wrote this for my Mom quite a while ago. I wanted her to know while she is still alive how much I love her and that her life's lessons didn't go unnotice or unappreciated. I didn't want to be one of those people that regret not saying how they feel while they have a chance. Don't let your chance slip away...
